Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin

Speaking of Marquise Goodwin, he easily became a 49ers fan favorite after a career year in 2017 while overcoming some terrible personal losses in his own family.

And if it weren’t for a helmet-to-helmet hit against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17, he could have been the first 1,000-yard receiver the Niners have had since Anquan Boldin did it back in 2014.

Usually, this is a great sign for fantasy football owners, especially in deeper leagues looking for a backup or flex option at the position.

But there are enough reasons to believe Goodwin won’t come quite as close to the kind of numbers he enjoyed in 2017:

For starters, the lack of end-zone production is of obvious concern. Yards are great in fantasy football, but touchdowns are where champions earn their gold. Goodwin has never been a viable red-zone option over his career, and that likely won’t change this season.

Additionally, Goodwin may wind up playing second fiddle to fellow Niners receiver, Pierre Garçon, who missed half of 2017 with a neck injury.

Garçon could be a nice supplementary piece late in your fantasy drafts. But Goodwin is only worth a look as a waiver-wire grab when your team needs receiving help.
