No. 2: Guard Will Hernandez

Age: 22 / Height: 6-foot-2 / Weight: 340 pounds

Right now, Joshua Garnett, Zane Beadles and Laken Tomlinson are the only guards signed to the active roster. Garnett missed all of last season with a knee injury and has yet to prove himself. Both Beadles and Tomlinson struggled in 2017, looking unplayable at times.

Undoubtedly, the situation at guard requires attention.

UTEP’s Will Hernandez is a player who could fill that hole. And he’s a player the team has already inquired about.

Last month, the 49ers met with Hernandez at the Senior Bowl. At his size, Hernandez is obviously a sought-after prospect.

That kind of towering presence would be a much needed boost. At the Senior Bowl, one scout said, “He looks like King Kong playing offensive line,” while another claimed him to be as, “strong as an ox.” Some descriptive terms.

In all seriousness, Hernandez would be an impact player for San Francisco and most likely an immediate starter. Like James Daniels, there is a chance he could go in the first round.

Size and tenacity are a must for an NFL offensive lineman, and Hernandez has both.
