Question 5: Has the hiring of Lynch/Shanahan and the steps forward in the last year done anything to improve Jed York’s legacy?

Writer note: See here for a more detailed analysis on this question

Peter Panacy:

"Yes. 100-percent yes. Jed York learned his lesson, I hope. Heck, even Eddie DeBartolo made mistakes when he first took over the franchise. Joe Thomas, anyone? I think the best lesson learned is York needed completely new faces to the franchise — names that could turn the 49ers brand from a laughingstock into a destination. Shanahan and John Lynch have helped York throw the past out the window. While we all may not be singing York’s praises just yet, I think it’s fair to forgive him for the errors he made over the past few years."

Aaron Tan:

"Yes. I think that Jed York has redeemed himself, and I’m actually very surprised to hear myself say that right now. A year and a month ago, Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly were just fired. The team had a terrible reputation and was a complete dumpster fire. Even Tim Kawakami asked Jed why he shouldn’t fire himself. In short, nobody wanted to come work for San Francisco. And even with all that, Jed and his team found a way to hire the right general manager in John Lynch and the brightest offensive mind in football in Kyle Shanahan. And look where it’s got us now. This has arguably been the fastest rebuild in league history. I’m proud of Jed, and actually like him as an owner now."

Joseph Naki:

"No comment on anything to do with York. He’s lucky to have Lynch and Shanny."

Ikaika Valeria:

"Headed in the right direction."

Chris Wilson:

"Yes, Jed York has improved his legacy by hiring head coach John Lynch and Shanahan. In 2017, York did what an NFL owner is supposed to do: hire good people to run your organization, and then get out of the way and let them run it."

Florito Maniego:

"The hiring of Lynch and Shanahan has definitely improved Jed York’s legacy. The past few years haven’t been pretty, but York has definitely turned things around by adding Lynch and Shanahan to San Francisco’s quest for its sixth Lombardi Trophy."

Analysis:

Majority consensus: Niner Noise forgives you, Jed.
