49ers NFL Draft needs: 2018 wide receiver big board
No. 10: Javon Wims (Georgia)
While his numbers are not eye-popping, Georgia’s Javon Wims still possesses a lot of upside heading into the NFL Draft. Wims totaled 720 receiving yards for 45 catches and scored seven touchdowns in 2017.
Georgia’s offense was centered around its high-powered running game, which gave less focus on the passing attack. Wims still capitalized on his opportunities and performed well during his team’s journey to the CFP National Championship.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Wims has the prototypical body type for a strong and lengthy wide receiver. Wims also has good speed and quickness to complement his sheer size.
Especially in the clutch, Wims has shown his impressive route-running and playmaking skills. For instance, in a game against Florida on Oct. 28, 2017, Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm threw the ball high toward Wims’ direction and the wide receiver still managed to snag the ball and complete the catch.
Wims is projected to be drafted between the third and fifth rounds. If the 49ers end up taking Wims late in the draft, San Francisco may end up getting a steal.
