The 49ers would like to think they have their quarterback situation of the future figured out. And by all accounts, it appears as if they do.

Jimmy Garoppolo seems to be the real deal. The Niners haven’t lost since he took over starting duties in Week 13 last year. The only question now is whether or not he gets hit with the franchise tag or is re-signed to a long-term, expensive deal.

Garoppolo’s camp will be wise to wait this one out, figuring on how the quarterback market plays out — something we broke down at Niner Noise earlier.

Fortunately, general manager John Lynch has more than enough cap space to make something happen — a league-most $115 million. And despite giving up their own second-round draft pick, which is looking like a steal, the Niners still have a selection in the top 10.

Overall, though, the 49ers are a team trending in the right direction. They have an offensive genius in head coach Kyle Shanahan, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see a slew of free agents wanting to play for the red and gold this season.

San Francisco’s sharp turnaround at the tail end of 2017 bodes well for its future. There are a lot of holes left to fill, but the Niners are arguably in the best position to go about doing so.
