No. 5: QB Nick Foles, Eagles

More from SF 49ers News

What? Really?

Simply put, Nick Foles is going to have to make some plays in the Super Bowl. And it wouldn’t be as shock to see the Patriots try to eliminate the Eagles running game, forcing Foles to be the X-factor.

Foles didn’t look great down the regular-season stretch after taking over for Pro Bowl QB Carson Wentz (ACL). But he has looked good during the postseason. In the NFC Divisional Round against the Atlanta Falcons, Foles was 23-of-30 for 246 yards and a passer rating of 100.1. A week later in the NFC Championship game versus a top-ranked Minnesota Vikings defense, Foles was nearly perfect. All he did was go 26-of-33 for 352 yards and three touchdowns, boasting a passer rating of 141.4.

Sometimes riding a hot streak is better than experience.

The Patriots are going to try taking away Foles’ favorite weapon through the air, tight end Zach Ertz. But that still leaves a talented cast of receivers, such as Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor.

Either player could help Foles have the game of his life. And if he does, a Super Bowl MVP award wouldn’t be out of the question.
