San Francisco 49ers: Ranking 5 best individual Super Bowl performances in franchise history
No. 1: Jerry Rice (Super Bowl XXIII)
While it’s difficult to top Young’s outstanding game during Super Bowl XXIX, Rice’s Super Bowl XXIII performance was arguably the most special.
San Francisco was down by three against the Cincinnati Bengals, until Montana orchestrated the infamous drive that earned the 49ers their third Super Bowl victory. Rice helped San Francisco reach the end zone in the final minutes of the game, which was concluded with a touchdown by wide receiver John Taylor.
Rice’s performance during Super Bowl XXIII was unheard of. The Hall of Famer accumulated 215 yards and scored one touchdown for the 49ers.
Rice still holds the record for most receiving yards in a Super Bowl, and breaking it could take a long time.
