No. 2: Steve Young (Super Bowl XXIX)

Montana and Young were arguably the best quarterback duo in NFL history. The pair shared numerous victories and won Super Bowl championships together.

Young, however, took over the team following Montana’s departure in 1993. Two years later, Young led San Francisco to its fifth trip to the Super Bowl.

The legendary quarterback capped off his 1994 MVP season by also earning the MVP honors for Super Bowl XXIX. Young recorded a whopping total of six touchdowns, three of which were thrown to Rice.

Young also passed for 325 yards and finished the game with a QB rating of 134.8.

Young’s six-touchdown performance broke his predecessor’s record of five touchdowns for most in a Super Bowl game. Young’s remarkable game also ranked as the best individual Super Bowl performance, according to NFL.com.

With his record-breaking performance, Young had the perfect ending to his MVP season and furthered his legacy as one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks.
