The San Francisco 49ers finished on a high note last year but still have a lot of work to do this offseason. Niner Noise looks at five roster moves the team can make in 2018.

Ten weeks into the 2017 season, all signs pointed to the San Francisco 49ers’ rebuild project taking a long, long time. After all, the Niners were 1-9 and vying for a top-two pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Enter quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and all that changed.

The Niners, of course, finished the year riding a five-game win streak and appear much further ahead in the rebuild than initially thought.

That said, head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad still has a long way to go before legitimately contending for a playoff berth. Fortunately, the team is armed with plenty of cap space and a top-10 pick in the draft.

It’s not a bad situation to be in.

Also good is the fact general manager John Lynch isn’t afraid to make sweeping changes to the roster where necessary. That’s how he approached last offseason, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see more changes in 2018.

In this article, we’ll take a look at five specific roster moves Lynch and the 49ers should make as they prepare for year two of the Shanahan-Lynch era.

And we’ll start with players already on San Francisco’s roster.
