No. 8: Jerry Rice Kicks Off a Beating versus the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV
When: January 28, 1990
The 49ers had already established a dynasty by the time Super Bowl XXIV rolled around.
But this time, they’d be facing the Denver Broncos, the NFL’s No. 1-ranked scoring defense and future Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway.
No problem. And fellow Hall of Famer Jerry Rice ensured things would start on the right foot for San Francisco.
After the Niners defense forced an opening 3-and-out, Rice and the offense easily marched down the field as if it were a knife slicing through butter. Seriously. The drive lasted less than four minutes.
And at its end, quarterback Joe Montana knew right where he wanted to go, as Rice hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass to open up the scoring.
By the time it was all over, the Niners routed the Broncos 55-10. Rice would post 148 yards and three touchdowns, further cementing his amazing legacy.
