The play that launched a dynasty. Did you really think it would be anything else?

Quarterback Joe Montana’s go-ahead touchdown pass to wide receiver Dwight Clark against the Dallas Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship game isn’t just the most famous play in 49ers history.

It’s one of the most iconic moments in the history of sports.

Any San Francisco fan knows what happened. Trailing 27-21 late in the fourth quarter, Montana found Clark sprinting to the back corner of the end zone, letting a pass fly where only Clark could catch it.

He did.

And by doing so, the Niners finally exercised their Cowboys demons from the 1970s and would become the dominant team of the decade.
