No. 2: Marquise Goodwin’s Emotional 83-Yard Touchdown Catch and Run

When it happened: Week 10 vs. New York Giants

The 49ers were riding a nine-game losing streak when the struggling New York Giants came to town in Week 10.

And while we didn’t know it at the time, wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was dealing with one of the worst personal tragedies any human being could deal with.

Goodwin and his wife had lost their newborn son to pregnancy complications just hours before, and the speedy receiver didn’t reveal the loss until after the game.

Despite the tragedy, Goodwin found the strength to play in the game. And contribute he did.

At the 7:59 mark of the second quarter, quarterback C.J. Beathard found Goodwin on a deep post route, as he got behind the Giants defense. Goodwin took it to the house, pulling off the 83-yard score and dropping to his knees in emotion moments later:

Sadly, that wasn’t the only tragedy Goodwin endured this season. A few weeks later, Goodwin lost his father yet still played up through Week 17.

And all he did was lead San Francisco in receiving yards (962) and stir the emotions of 49ers fans everywhere.
