The San Francisco 49ers’ 2017 campaign is over, and Niner Noise looks back at five key statistical areas the team needs to improve upon next season.

It’s pretty easy to feel good about the San Francisco 49ers’ chances in 2018 after wrapping up last year with a five-game winning streak en route to a 6-10 finish.

And while it was refreshing to see the Niners finish on a strong note, there’s a lot of work to be done between now and Week 1 in September.

If you’re not improving, you’re getting worse… or so the saying goes, and San Francisco can still look back at a number of key areas where such improvement is needed. While the entirety of last year’s efforts reveal a lot of room for fixes, even the last five weeks have revealed some pretty specific problems.

These will need to be addressed before we can legitimately consider the 49ers a playoff contender.

In this slideshow, we’ll follow up with the opposite side of the coin to Niner Noise’s breakdown of good statistical areas.

This is the negative part. Or, as the report card would say, “needs improvement.”

Sadly, there’s quite a few. Yet the Niners have more than a few options to go about fixing them.
