You might remember the New Orleans Saints were about to land former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster at the tail end of Round 1 in last year’s NFL Draft.

Only to see the 49ers trade up and grab him a spot earlier.

The Saints follow Foster’s pedigree, though, electing to grab his former teammate, Rashaan Evans late in Round 1. Evans was overshadowed last year by Foster, but the 6-foot-3, 234 pounder logging a career-high 57 tackles, five sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss.

Like Foster, Evans is solid in coverage and is an asset against the run as well.

While the Saints have shown some dramatic improvement, defensively, they could still use a solid coverage linebacker at the second level.

Evans provides just that.
