Jaguars vs. 49ers: Full Week 16 preview for San Francisco
Quarterback comparison
Jimmy Garoppolo is the topic of many conversations around the NFL
With Garoppolo as the starter, the 49ers are 3-0. While two of those wins came against the lowly Chicago Bears and Houston Texans, the last victory was versus an AFC playoff contender in the Tennessee Titans.
Garoppolo threw for 381 yards and one touchdown in the Titans game, and only needed 30 seconds and three passes to lead the 49ers down the field for the last-second kick to win it. The performance warranted Garoppolo FedEx Air Player of the Week.
It has been a remarkable stretch for Garoppolo since taking over for C.J. Beathard. Garoppolo is 76-113 for 1,008 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The 1,008 yards are more than Joe Montana and Steve Young had in their first three starts combined.
Blake Bortles has been of the best quarterbacks in the league over the past few weeks
Part of the turnaround from the Jaguars this season can be contributed to Bortles. The performance from Bortles is nothing short of amazing after posting a 16-interception season last year.
In the month of December, Bortles is 3-0 and ranks first in the NFL for touchdown-to-interception ratio, yards per attempt and and total quarterback rating. For the season, Bortles has thrown for 3,147 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 61 percent of his passes.
