The San Francisco 49ers have plenty of cap space and a flurry of needs to target in NFL free agency this offseason. The big names are out there, but here are five lesser-known ones instead.

Unlike his predecessor, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch didn’t hesitate to use NFL free agency as a valuable tool to upgrade what was a 2-14 roster coming into the 2017 season.

And with roughly $116 million projected cap space next year, Lynch won’t have to worry about pinching pennies.

Niner Noise already explored some of the bigger-name targets Lynch should be eyeballing this offseason should they hit the open market. One of two of those would be great. But, as is so often the case, the lesser-known deals wind up being the ones to make a roster go from OK to good, good to great.

In this article, we’ll explore five under-the-radar free-agent targets San Francisco should consider this offseason.

As a guide, let’s refer to Jason Fitzgerald at Over the Cap, who broke down five teams with the worst cap situations heading into 2018. They are as follows:

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Baltimore Ravens

We have no clue how these teams will manage their 2018 rosters, but it’s worth exploring whether or not the 49ers could purge some talent here.

So let’s take a look at some possibilities, shall we?
