Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

Here’s a stat you need to know — Jimmy Garoppolo’s 1,008 passing yards over three starts are the most in 49ers franchise history.

And there’s this obvious stat too:

The standard stat line was pretty impressive, to say the least. He finished the day going 31-of-43 for 381 yards and a touchdown, all for a passer rating of 106.8. That’s enough to convince any remaining doubters.

But what was even more impressive was how Garoppolo handled pressure, which we expected the Titans to bring. According to Pro Football Focus, Garoppolo was pressured 18 times on 46 dropbacks but still managed a 104.2 passer rating when facing such pressure.

While it was just one game, that number is substantially better than quarterbacks Tom Brady (98.3) and Carson Wentz’s (81.7) passer ratings this season when facing pressure.

And with San Francisco’s offensive line still a liability, it’s good to know Garoppolo is more than competent operating when opponents’ defenders can get into the backfield.

We have no clue how or when the 49ers extend Garoppolo beyond this season. But there are no doubts now whether or not they should. He’s the real deal.
