Week 15 by the numbers

Signed in the offseason, wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was brought in as a vertical threat. While Goodwin has certainly showed to be adeptly capable of providing a boom, he also proven to be someone you can go to in the intermediate passing game.

In both games since Garoppolo has taken over, Goodwin has emerged as a favorite. The fifth-year wide receiver was already having a career year before Garoppolo became the starter, and it has only continued.

Goodwin has put up 14 receptions for 205 yards over the past two games, an average of 14.6 yards per catch, and has received a PFF grade of 80.0 or higher in three consecutive games.

As it stands, Goodwin’s season totals are up to 783 yards on 41 receptions, both the highest he has recorded in a single campaign. If Goodwin can average 72.3 receiving yards over the final three games, he will eclipse the 1,000-yard barrier for the first time in his career.

He does only have one touchdown on the season, but the offense as a whole has struggled to find the end zone. And there have been too many instances of dropped passes from Goodwin.

Nonetheless, it has been a productive outing from Goodwin.

For the team as a whole, there definitely are signs of improvement. The defense’s No. 25 ranking in yards per game (351.8) obviously is not top tier, but it is no coincidence that unit has also played the sixth-most snaps in the league.

The offense has seen the most progression, currently sitting at No. 17 in yards per game (334.1) while working with three different quarterbacks and a swath of injuries.
