No. 5: Carson Wentz (PHI)

The trickiest selection for this keepers list was, by far, Carson Wentz. If it weren’t for his knee injury last week, he could easily be No. 1 on this list. However, the added questions about his health have scared me off a little.

Honestly, that I am still able to put him here as a keeper, with the concerns over his availability to start next season, is a sign to how outstanding a year he was having. Wentz was having an MVP-type of season here in 2017. For a quarterback to lead a team as well as he did in just his second NFL season was astounding.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see him close out this season with the team he took so far. So looking ahead for fantasy purposes as we always do, where does he stand for 2018?

A healthy Wentz with this Eagles roster is a no-brainer keeper selection. If you feel as though you can survive next season without him for the beginning of the season, than you keep him. Simple as that.

In a worst case scenario for 2018, you may wind up keeping a quarterback who won’t be ready to play until around Week 10. How many wins can any fantasy football team get in ten weeks without its quarterback? That also leaves Wentz only three or four weeks of games to help your team hopefully make a playoff push next season.

Are you willing to take the risk of losing an entire fantasy season based on your quarterback’s unknown health? Wentz is the type of talent where you may just have to risk it. He is in the perfect offense and has the correct pieces around him to be great in 2018 when healthy. He is either a top-5 quarterback for the second half of 2018 or he is the reason your team is bottom dwelling in the fantasy standings next year.
