49ers Special Teams

OK, so kicker Robbie Gould converted all five of his field-goal attempts, including the game winner. So we can’t knock special teams there.

But there was a big swing in the second quarter, when Bears return man Tarik Cohen returned a punt for a 61-yard touchdown:

While this was about as unorthodox a return attempt you’ll see, the inability of the 49ers to execute proper containment here is a bit concerning.

San Francisco entered this contest allowing an average of just 2.5 yards per punt return, which was tops in the league. That number will take a bit of a hit after Week 13, although we should still consider this one of the team’s few strengths.

But the stock still falls a bit.
