49ers stock report after 15-14 Week 13 win over the Bears
By Peter Panacy
Running Back Carlos Hyde
The Bears defense has been pretty good at home this season, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise the 49ers couldn’t get their running game going to great effect.
No. 1 running back Carlos Hyde did have a nice 18-yard pickup during the contest. But overall, he had just 54 yards on 17 carries — an average of only 3.2 yards per carry. Take away his 18-yard gain, and that average drops to 2.3 yards per attempt.
Hyde had a small impact in the receiving game, hauling in three passes for 12 yards, but he certainly wasn’t a game-changing factor.
And there were more than a few instances where Hyde was indecisive at hitting the holes:
No. 2 tailback Matt Breida logged five fewer carries than Hyde but averaged a respectable 3.8 yards per attempt. It’s safe to say he’s pushing Hyde for significant carries, and head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t hesitate to give Breida some first looks.
With Hyde set to be a free agent after this season, his future with the team remains a question mark.
