42. . Defensive Tackle. Oregon. DeForest Buckner. 1. player

Original Player Selected: DT DeForest Buckner, Oregon

No changes here. This was about as no-brainer a pick the 49ers could have made to kick off the 2016 NFL Draft.

At No. 7 overall, the Niners were lucky enough to have former Oregon defensive tackle DeForest Buckner slip past the Baltimore Ravens and right into San Francisco’s hands. Buckner managed 6.5 sacks his rookie year and flashed enough promise to suggest he’d be an anchor piece along the 49ers’ rebuilding defensive line.

Year two has showcased even more.

According to Pro Football Focus, Buckner is the No. 6-ranked interior defender in the NFL this season, with an elite-level grade of 90.6.

And he’ll continue to be an anchor point for quite some time.
