Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin

It’s impossible to imagine the pain wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was experiencing after suffering the loss of his newborn son, as made known by Goodwin on social media following Sunday’s win.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan summed up Goodwin’s sentiments, via ESPN, after the game:

"I know Marquise was hurting bad, real bad, and he will for a while and I know his wife will, too. I don’t know how sure he was right away. I think he was up alone throughout the night and then he got here. … By the time I was able to talk to Marquise he was hurting but he was adamant he wanted to play, and that’s something as a coach you respect."

Goodwin’s emotional reaction to his 83-yard touchdown was pretty special, and one can only give credit for using the loss as motivation. It speaks to his character, and anyone can certainly appreciate that.

The Niners’ veteran receiver has had some up-and-down moments this season, but we can put those in the rear-view mirror and focus a bit on what’s more important.

And it’s impossible to say his stock didn’t rise this game.
