The Ugly

For the first time in, well… a while, we can keep the ugly portion of our postgame pretty short.

Except for the fan in the photo above, though. His night was probably pretty long.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan gets his first win of his NFL career, and the 49ers can finally cross off this all-too important step in the team’s rebuild.

But there are a few things that need some work.

For starters, the Niners still lost the time-of-possession battle — 31 minutes to 29, even. It might not sound that significant, especially considering some of the quick-strike scores the Niners had. Yet these are offset by the two turnovers, namely the fumble committed by fullback Kyle Juszczyk early in the game.

More from Niner Noise

This was the second by Juszczyk in as many weeks, and that’s a tough pill to swallow when considering his four-year, $21 million contract.

Self-inflicted wounds remain a problem. And while the Niners got away with more than a few in Week 10, we can’t ignore the fact they were still there.

Yes, penalties. Six of these for 44 yards.

The 49ers got away with these, thanks in large measure, by facing off against a terrible Giants squad that had, for all intents and purposes, gave up in the second half.

Against, better teams, though, the Niners are crippled by those flags.

Still, San Francisco has its first win of the season, and that offers up a pretty nice feeling heading into the bye week.
