  • This might be a stretch, but it might not be a surprise to see newly acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo make his first appearance in a 49ers uniform against the Giants.

Garoppolo didn’t play in Week 9, letting C.J. Beathard experience the trauma associated with a bad offensive line and still-potent Cardinals defensive front. New York doesn’t have a prolific pass rush, though, which should ease the pressure somewhat for whoever is under center.

And it’s a reality we see Garoppolo.

The reason is this — Week 10 provides, perhaps, the best chance the Niners have to win a game this season. Just take a look at the remaining schedule. For all his toughness, Beathard doesn’t help the Niners’ chances. Garoppolo could. That’s the key word.

Sure, the 49ers would love to have the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but nobody wants to be associated with a 0-16 year. The Niners are dangerously close to being so.

With a bye coming up the following week, giving Garoppolo some field time can do a lot of good.

Heck, he might have to come in anyway if Beathard’s beatdowns within the pocket continue.
