Sit-em: Joe Mixon (CIN) @ Jacksonville

I was the leader of the Joe Mixon fan club at many points this season. I gave him every excuse and opportunity to turn his rookie season around, but it just hasn’t happened. Of course, now that I am off the bandwagon, he is bound to break out soon.

  • However, this is almost certainly not the week against the tough Jaguars defense.

Someone with the talent level that Joe Mixon possesses should be able to turn 20 touches into rather good success, but it hasn’t translated to Sundays. It’s not just Mixon that is struggling on the Cincinnati offense, but that doesn’t take away from his poor play in the first half. He was handed the starting running back job after Week 3 and has been just as ineffective as fellow runners Jeremy Hill and Giovanni Bernard.

Calais Campbell and the Jacksonville defense is one to avoid in fantasy football for the second half. Mixon and the Bengals offense would have to have done a complete 180 in their bye week to score big against the Jaguars this week. Even if that happens, I am not going to go on faith.

I am going to have to see Mixon succeed in an NFL game before he is in my lineup again this season. I have been burned by his “upside potential” all year and it’s not going to happen again. You shouldn’t be surprised to see more of Giovanni Bernard in this game as well. His pass-catching ability can be used to low the Jaguars pass rush and try to help the struggling Bengals get a win.

Don’t fall into the Mixon trap again this week.

Other options: CJ Anderson (DEN) @ Philadelphia and Carlos Hyde (SF) vs. Arizona
