  • One of those teams that took advantage of Chiefs safety Eric Murray was the Oakland Raiders, doing so with great effectiveness last week on Thursday Night Football during Oakland’s thrilling 31-30 win.

Like the Chiefs, the Raiders’ window for AFC Championship contention is now. And while Oakland’s offense finally seems to be back on track, problems on the defensive side of the ball have proven to be a major point of concern for general manager Reggie McKenzie moving forward.

Particularly in the secondary, where 34-year-old veteran Reggie Nelson is seeing his lengthy career wind to a close.

Nelson’s abilities last year were certainly Pro Bowl worthy, but that hasn’t been the case in 2017. His coverage skills rank ninth worst, per Pro Football Focus, out of 108 safeties this season, and it’s likely that number won’t get any better. And the aspect that made Nelson a Pro Bowler the last two seasons — his ballhawking abilities — haven’t been on display at all this year.

Reid is a much younger option and would easily be an upgrade over the older veteran.
