Defensive End Solomon Thomas

San Francisco’s top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, defensive end Solomon Thomas, has had a bit of a sluggish start to his rookie season. Entering Week 6, the Stanford product had a lowly 59.9 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus, ranking 80th out of 104 qualifiers.

Not exactly an indication of early rewards.

But Thomas’ stock should rise a bit after his efforts against Washington. He finished with a team-leading nine tackles, including two for a loss, as well as his second sack of the year on quarterback Kirk Cousins:

Cousins got back at Thomas late in the game, evading the rookie on a zone-read play where Thomas bit on the running back, allowing Cousins to get into the end zone.

These are mistakes many rookies make, though, and the only thing that’s important is for Thomas to learn from it.

Overall, Thomas put together one of the most complete games we’ve seen from him this season.

Let’s hope that trajectory continues.
