Safety Eric Reid

Week 6 marked the first time veteran safety Eric Reid saw action since suffering a knee injury against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

This injury opened up the door for his backup, Jaquiski Tartt, to see first-team reps at strong safety.

More on Tartt in a bit, but Reid’s tenure in San Francisco might be in doubt.

Reid wasn’t particularly bad against the Redskins. But the fact he had just one tackle in limited action, while Tartt had six, could easily make San Francisco’s first-round pick from 2013 expendable beyond this season.

Oh, and Reid will be a free agent in 2018.

San Francisco’s secondary still has a lot of question marks and remains a key liability. It’s not likely the 49ers offload Reid, via a trade, between now and the Oct. 31 deadline. But it’s something to note regardless.

In the meantime, Reid is looking like the odd man out.
