Fantasy football: Start-em, sit-em players for Week 6
By Jay Marsdale
Week 6 in the NFL is full of great fantasy football matchups for players to take advantage of when building their winning lineups. Some big name star players are poised to breakout this weekend. Here are our suggestions on who to start and sit for your fantasy football Week 6 matchup.
Fantasy football continues into Week 6 and there are a few things everyone needs to know.
First, the teams on a bye this week are Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas and Seattle. That means no A.J. Green, no LeSean McCoy and no Dak Prescott or Russell Wilson this week. Teams are going to be scrambling to find replacements in their lineups for these key contributors.
There are still plenty of great players with great matchups to choose from in Week 6. The year of the impressive offensive rookies looks to continue into Week 6. There are a few of those rookies on both the start-em and sit-em side of this week’s list.
San Francisco 49ers
Let’s take a look at the Week 5 list and see how we fared.
Week 5 Hits: Dak Prescott (DAL) start-em, Eli Manning (NYG) sit-em, Jordan Howard (CHI) sit-em, Amari Cooper (OAK) sit-em, Austin Seferian-Jenkins (NYJ) start-em.
Week 5 Misses: Christian McCaffrey (CAR) start-em, Jarvis Landry (MIA) start-em, Jimmy Graham (SEA) sit-em.
Melvin Gordon was also on the sit-em list under the “other options” and wound up being the most productive fantasy football back last week. Have to make up for that one this week so let’s get started.
DeShaun Watson (HOU) vs. Cleveland
The Houston Texans have transformed into an offensive minded team in one offseason. Now with the losses of defensive stars J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus for the season, even more pressure is on rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson has been sensational to start the year, and Week 6 is going to be another big one for the rookie. The Texans were expecting to compete for a division title this season, but because of a stout defense, it is going to have to be the offense that carries this team to that potential this year.
Watson is a good play on most weeks, and this week he gets the juicy matchup against the Cleveland Browns. They are one of the few remaining winless teams in the NFL, and that first win isn’t likely in Week 6.
Watson is going to make sure of that.
The Texans offense got even more firepower a few weeks ago when second-year wide receiver Will Fuller came back off of injury. He and Watson have quickly developed chemistry on the fly this season. With a second receiver to throw to, defenses can’t focus in nearly as hard on star receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and that has led to big offensive games for both receivers in these last two games. When those receivers have good games, Watson has a good game.
There are a few veteran quarterbacks that are muddling through the 2017 season so far. For fantasy football purposes the rest of the year, Watson is a top-12 quarterback option most weeks. His ability to not only throw the ball consistently, but also run and score points with his legs makes for fantasy gold. Roll with Watson in Week 6 and beyond in fantasy football.
Other options: Matthew Stafford (DET) @ New Orleans and Jacoby Brissett (IND) vs. Tennessee
