San Francisco 49ers: 5 players who could possibly be moved at the NFL trade deadline
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers have been involved in some trade speculation as of late, so Niner Noise looks at five possible players the team could move by the NFL trade deadline.
The keyword here is could.
Not should or would, none of that. We’ll get to that down the road.
At any rate, the San Francisco 49ers are in the early stages of a long-term rebuild. We know this, and a 0-4 start to 2017 would suggest general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan are starting to eye next year already.
So it makes sense San Francisco has been the topic of some trade speculation around the league. Earlier this week, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora suggested the 49ers move defenders like DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead or Eric Reid for New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Um, no. Certainly not Buckner.
While the Patriots defense is terrible and the 49ers need a quarterback, it would make zero sense for San Francisco to trade away its best defensive asset.
Yes, you have to give something up to get something in return. But a Buckner-for-Garoppolo deal isn’t going to happen.
What about the rest of the speculation, though?
In this slideshow, we’ll look at five players the 49ers could move between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline and why each move would make sense, along with why it wouldn’t.
