NFL power rankings: Week 5 sees 49ers stay low, a new team at No. 1
By Peter Panacy
It’s hard to judge whether or not the Cowboys’ 35-30 loss to the Rams says more about Dallas’ problems in 2017 or L.A.’s red-hot start to 2017.
Perhaps both.
Either way, a 2-2 start for the Cowboys is a bit of an oddity after what happened last season. Yes, we knew the offensive line wasn’t going to be quite as solid this year, and there were certainly questions about the revamped secondary.
That secondary was exposed for 244 passing yards and two touchdowns by Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who wasn’t under much pressure and was only sacked twice.
Meanwhile, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott did as much as he could to keep his team in the game, tossing three touchdowns against one interception. Same went for running back Ezekiel Elliott, who gained 85 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
For a team many pegged as darlings in the NFC, it’s weird to see them so low in NFL power rankings after four weeks. And who knows what happens when Dallas hosts the Packers in Week 5?
