Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh

A week after the 49ers gave up 418 total yards and 41 points to the Rams, the Niners defense managed to clamp down once again against a Cardinals offense with more than just a handful of weapons.

Credit should go to defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, especially considering his group currently ranks No. 6 in the NFL with only 4.9 yards per play allowed.

That’s pretty good, especially considering what happened last year.

In Week 4, the Niners gave up 368 total yards of offense but managed to hold Arizona to a 5-of-16 mark on third downs. The defense also held the Cardinals’ not-so-great rushing attack to a mere 51 yards.

And while Arizona’s game-winning touchdown in overtime isn’t a good look, at least Saleh can feel pretty confident his defense isn’t the reason San Francisco is winless over the first quarter of 2017.
