I have no clue what the 49ers’ running back situation is going to be in 2018. No. 1 runner Carlos Hyde is a pending free agent, and the Niners sidelined rookie Joe Williams (ankle) on injured reserve after a sluggish training camp and preseason.

Undrafted free agent Matt Breida could be something special, but we haven’t seen it yet.

Running back could be a position higher up for head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co., but let’s focus more on value here in Round 7.

Such value would indicate Vanderbilt tailback Ralph Webb as a worthy target.

“I’ve been underrated my whole life, so I use it as motivation to rise up, prove everyone wrong, and be the best I can be,” said Webb, via NFL.com.

Webb has been Vanderbilt’s workhorse the past three seasons, finishing 2016 with 1,283 yards on the ground and averaging 5.1 yards per carry in the process.

Whether or not these kinds of numbers translate over to the NFL is anyone’s guess, but the 49ers could do worse than adding Webb to stockpile this position.
