The 49ers go from Round 4 to 6, and we’ve reached the point where the majority of prospects are going to be developmental hopefuls.

San Francisco might put off its need for offensive tackles until after 2018. Right tackle Trent Brown seems to be developing nicely, and veteran left tackle Joe Staley is probably serviceable enough for another year or two.

But that doesn’t mean the Niners should avoid looking for another Brown-type player — a late-round pick with some serious upside.

At 6-foot-7 and 310 pounds, Oklahoma State’s Zachary Crabtree could be this kind of workable commodity. He’s durable, having started 34 games before his senior year in 2017. And a second-team All-Big 12 nomination is certainly worth mentioning.

Like Brown, Crabtree excels more in pass protection than run blocking, which makes this pickup less of a necessity and more of a project piece.
