FanSpeak gave me the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, and that wouldn’t be a total shock for San Francisco.

The Niners need a quarterback. It’s pretty clear the incumbent, Brian Hoyer, isn’t the answer. And if you’re pinning your hopes on rookie C.J. Beathard becoming something special, well, good thing you’re not a scout.

It’s probably a good thing I’m no scout either, but the 49ers would certainly like to get their hands on the top quarterbacking prospect in this year’s draft, USC’s Sam Darnold.

Darnold has had some issues with interceptions this year, though, but it’s not exactly the quarterback’s fault.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller elaborated further:

"Darnold once again showed his poise and toughness in an exciting, double-overtime win over Texas. In the early part of the game, USC mostly called underneath routes and played conservatively, but Darnold took over late with more downfield passing. He did throw two interceptions, running his total on the year to six after throwing just nine last year. It would be unfair to put all those picks on Darnold, as some have come on tipped and dropped passes, but it will be something to watch."

San Francisco has plenty of needs, but Darnold might be the clearest option for a long-term quarterback.
