Safety Jaquiski Tartt

With Eric Reid (knee) out for Week 3, the 49ers were forced to start third-year pro Jaquiski Tartt at strong safety, despite Tartt also being on the injury report with a neck injury.

Tartt disappoint, even though it was clear he was playing hurt:

Tartt  had to come out later in the game, due to a concussion. He’ll have to clear the NFL’s mandate on head injuries before returning to action, and it’s a shame he suffered the injury. Tartt has had a great start to 2017.

All this is important to remember because Reid is a pending free agent after this season.

Should the Niners want to move on from Reid, Tartt might be the next starter at the strong safety spot.

Efforts like Week 3 certainly make this a worthwhile thought.
