The San Francisco 49ers will likely target a quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. Niner Noise takes a look at five prospects that may be on the team’s radar over the course of this upcoming NCAA season.

In all likelihood, a quarterback will be high on the list of San Francisco 49ers priorities in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Sure, we have no clue what will happen between now and draft day, 2018.

Perhaps current Niners starter Brian Hoyer makes a case to be a long-term fixture. Maybe rookie QB C.J. Beathard is viewed as “that guy.”

Heck, maybe San Francisco targets free-agent-to-be Kirk Cousins on the open market less than a year from now.

But if we go with the late Bill Walsh’s theory, teams should draft a quarterback every year, the 49ers will be targeting a signal-caller in 2018. The only questions are who and when.

Unlike this year, though, the 2018 draft class at quarterback is pretty deep.

This means general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan likely won’t have to reach for a QB, especially early. Yet given the prognosis of what to expect out of San Francisco this season, it’s likely they’ll be armed with a relatively high pick.

In this slideshow, we’ll take a look at five prospective quarterbacks potentially on the team’s radar.

And we’ll kick things off with USC’s Sam Darnold — widely viewed as the top prospect available.
