When does quarterback Patrick Mahomes take over for Alex Smith?

Rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of the better NFL preseason storylines in 2017.

And if you’re not a believer, just check out this throw:

This big-play capability is something the Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacking incumbent, Alex Smith, doesn’t have in his arsenal.

Smith is clearly the placeholder under center this season. The Chiefs will be OK with him, but Smith has long lacked the ability to win when it counts the most.

If one is to read Chiefs fans’ sentiments correctly, Mahomes should be in sooner than later.
