The San Francisco 49ers have trimmed their roster down to 53 players, and Niner Noise takes a look at the five most surprising players, who managed to survive cuts.

One of the toughest steps on the NFL calendar is over, and the San Francisco 49ers have whittled their 90-man offseason roster down to 53 players.

This is fluid, of course, as the Niners may continue to add and subtract talent in the days leading up to Week 1 of the regular season.

Additionally, there were some surprises.

Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is gone, as is versatile defensive tackle Quinton Dial. Rookie running back Joe Williams (ankle) landed on season-ending injured reserve, as did second-year guard Joshua Garnett.

That’s not the point of this article, though.

Instead, we’ll look at the five most-surprising additions — players who managed to steer clear of cuts and avoid the task of seeking a new employer.

Yeah, there are some surprises there too.
