Wide Receiver

Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin

Slot: Trent Taylor

Reserves: Aldrick Robinson, Victor Bolden Jr., Kendrick Bourne

The 49ers made somewhat of a shocking move on day two of roster cuts, parting ways with veteran wide receiver Jeremy Kerley — San Francisco’s leading receiver from a year ago.

This move makes sense, though, as Kerley became something of an expendable commodity following the surge seen by rookie wideouts Trent Taylor and Victor Bolden Jr. Both these first-year players can operate out of the slot and contribute on special teams.

Veterans Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin sit atop this depth chart. No surprises there.

And it makes sense for San Francisco to keep Aldrick Robinson, a receiver with ties to head coach Kyle Shanahan last year, to help retain some continuity.

The interesting question will be to see how the deeper elements of this group contribute in 2017. Still, it’s a vastly improved crop over what we saw last season.
