Week 4 by the numbers

Last week, the 49ers were middle of the pack in terms of league rankings for offense and defense after topping them in the week prior. An exceptional game against the Vikings has produced a bump for the teams’ offensive rankings. This is where San Francisco stands heading into week four (via NFL.com):

  • No. 3 total offense — 369.3 yards per game
  • No. 14 total defense — 292.0 yards per game
  • No. 4 passing offense — 264.0 yards per game
  • No. 15 rushing offense —105.3 yards per game

Out of all those departments, the run game on offense has been the least impactful. It’s been a struggle for starting running back Carlos Hyde to get involved in most of the preseason games.
