No. 9: Offensive Lineman Darrell Williams Jr.

Like Erik Magnuson, offensive lineman Darrell Williams Jr. is another practice squad candidate coming his way to the 49ers as a UDFA.

The former Western Kentucky lineman has outperformed second-year pro John Theus, who probably doesn’t have much of a chance to make the 53-man roster.

Williams, 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, is too raw to earn a spot either. But a good hunch would suggest the Niners’ new regime has more invested in Williams at this point than Theus.

At least according to Niners Wire’s Jerod Brown, who thinks Williams is an excellent p-squad candidate:

Teams usually carry at least two offensive linemen on their practice squads, namely to provide an insurance option for a position frequently suffering injury attrition.

Keeping Williams around in this capacity makes sense.
