No. 10: Offensive Lineman Erik Magnuson

The majority of practice squad players are either late-round NFL Draft picks or undrafted free agents.

This is the case for former Michigan offensive tackle Erik Magnuson, who found his way to San Francisco as a UDFA.

Magnuson is the prototypical developmental player here. At 6-foot-6 and 304 pounds, Magnuson has the body type to double on multiple positions along the line. While he played at right tackle in college, mostly, the Niners also experimented with him at center, adding to his versatility.

Magnuson didn’t disappoint in Week 1 of the preseason either, logging an 82.7 game grade, per Pro Football Focus:

The 49ers have a number of question marks along the offensive line heading into 2017, so stockpiling a reserve option like Magnuson makes a lot of sense.

He’s not the only option, though.
