Niner Noise predicts the 10 players who are named to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad after NFL teams are forced to trim their rosters to 53 players.
NFL teams will have to cut their 90-man offseason rosters to 53 players no later than Sunday, September 2 at 4 p.m. ET.
For the San Francisco 49ers, this means some tough decisions lay ahead.
The Niners have gone through massive roster changes in 2017, and not everyone is going to crack the regular-season roster. That’s why there’s the practice squad.

Current collective-bargaining rules mandate teams can keep no more than 10 eligible players on their practice squad. Certain rules apply — you can read more about them here — but the practice squad is typically intended so teams can work on developing players without them counting against their 53-man rosters during the regular season.
In this slideshow, we’ll try to predict the 10 players from San Francisco who make the practice squad.
A few have made names for themselves during training camp and the preseason. Yet the risk is, of course, promising exposure can open up the chance other teams grab these players off the 49ers practice squad.
The one condition being, of course, those teams sign these players to their own 53-man rosters.
Regardless, let’s take a look at who might make this group and why. And we’ll start off with an offensive lineman, who has shown some solid things in advance of Week 1.
