No. 2: Offensive Tackle Breno Giacomini, Houston Texans

ESPN’s Sarah Barshop listed veteran offensive tackle Breno Giacomini as a possible cut candidate, as he tries to hammer out a spot with the Houston Texans this preseason.

The 31-year-old lineman suffered a back injury that limited him to just five games last season. And like a good chunk of players on this list, he wouldn’t be a plug-and-play option for San Francisco if that’s the route the team chose to take.

Giacomini has played almost his entire career at right tackle — a spot currently held by 49ers RT Trent Brown.

Brown would still be the favorite to win out. But his backup, Garry Gilliam, ranked 68th out of 76 qualifying tackles last year, per Pro Football Focus.

Gilliam isn’t an ideal backup, so Giacomini might wind up being a more feasible depth upgrade here.
