No. 3: Offensive Guard Laken Tomlinson, Detroit Lions

Yes, another offensive lineman. Notice a trend here?

This move is primarily predicated on the loss of Joshua Garnett, and Detroit Lions guard Laken Tomlinson is a player to watch at roster cuts.

Ideally, the Lions would move Tomlinson via a trade, although Detroit general manager Bob Quinn expressed his team’s desire to keep the former first-round pick in the Lions’ future plans.

Tomlinson lost his starting job last season, and the free-agent pickup of veteran lineman T.J. Lang doesn’t help Tomlinson’s prospects to return to a starting role.

Detroit isn’t in the best of cap situations right now either, although a straight release of Tomlinson wouldn’t exactly free up a ton of salary. Rather it would be more about opening up a roster spot, hence why a trade makes more sense.

Tomlinson might not be a long-term option, but a different situation in San Francisco could be beneficial.
