The San Francisco 49ers may have some opportunities to improve their 53-man roster after cuts are made prior to Week 1. Here are five possible candidates to watch if any of these players are cut this NFL preseason.

The San Francisco 49ers, along with the rest of the NFL, will be scouring the waiver wire when final roster cuts are made after Week 4 of the preseason.

For general manager John Lynch and Co., it provides a chance to make some notable improvements for a roster in transition.

Niner Noise already suggested the possibility Lynch goes this route — targeting worthy players who, for whatever reason, didn’t make it through to a 53-man roster.

One example is former 49ers center Jeremy Zuttah, who was released by the team in early August. Think along those lines, but San Francisco is now the buyer.

Using some aggregate information from around the league, to help determine why certain players might be cut by their respective team, Niner Noise looks at five possible cut-candidate targets San Francisco should look at before the regular season begins.

Each of these possible players could help fill specific needs the 49ers have.
