Running Back Kapri Bibbs

Veteran running back Kapri Bibbs wasn’t a factor on the offensive side of the ball, but that’s not exactly why the 49ers traded for him earlier this offseason.

Bibbs is more of a special teams ace, although his efforts on one particular play didn’t bode well for his roster chances.

At the 7:14 mark of the third quarter, the 49ers faced 4th-and-6 and elected to punt from the Chiefs 42-yard line. Kansas City generated interior pressure, and Bibbs should have picked up Chiefs linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis, who managed to get by Bibbs and block Bradley Pinion’s punt.

Kansas City recovered at the Niners’ 8-yard line and scored a touchdown the subsequent play.

Bibbs is hardly in the discussion for depth at running back, and special teams would likely be the only reason he makes the 53-man roster.

What happened here doesn’t do Bibbs any favors.
