No. 5: Quarterback Carson Wentz

As noted on the previous slide, one might think second-year QB Carson Wentz is in for a good season after the Eagles acquired Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery in free agency.

Both these receivers are better than anything Philadelphia boasted last season. Yet that doesn’t mean you’re going to see prolific production either.

Wentz is likely going to be a product of a relatively poor supporting cast than sub-par play. Jeffery’s issues have been documented, and he might be an OK player, at best, in 2017. Meanwhile, Smith is coming off career-low back-to-back years with the San Francisco 49ers.

True, the Niners offense was terrible in 2015 and 2016, but Smith was equally a part of the problem.

Still, these additions are going to convince some fantasy football owners to reach for Wentz earlier than they should.

As a backup option or late-round sleeper, Wentz is a good idea. Nothing more.
